Boss Rob Smith is warning AFC Telford United to take nothing for granted against away-day specialists Stalybridge Celtic in their FA Trophy replay tonight.

The Bucks came back from Manchester with a 1-1 draw in the third qualifying round on Saturday.

But Smith knows they will have to raise their game this evening if they are to book a trip to Nantwich Town in the first round proper on Saturday, December 12.

Stalybridge have lost just once away from their own ground in 10 outings this season, that a 2-1 defeat at Southport back in August, and have won six of the other nine.

“Their away form is excellent and you can see why they’ve been on the run they have,” said Smith.

“They’re very good footballers and they catch you on the break.

“The tie is still in the balance as far as I’m concerned, but we’re in decent form ourselves and feel confident.

“It’s not ideal to be having another replay, but a draw at Stalybridge is no mean feat – and it doesn’t matter how you get through, as long as you do.

“With 15 minutes to go on Saturday we’d certainly have taken a draw, and we’re looking forward to tonight.”

Striker Andy Brown is definitely ruled out this evening due to a groin injury, while loan midfielder Gavin Hurren returns after serving a three-match suspension.

Smith deployed centre-back Shane Killock as a left-back on Saturday, primarily to counter the threat of Stalybridge right winger Dave Hankin, and could adopt the same strategy tonight.

“I felt Shane was better equipped to deal with their winger and he did do that in the end,” added the Bucks boss. “I don’t think you’ll see too many changes tonight.”

Entry tonight is £9 for adults, £6 for concessions and £1 for under-16s. The tie will be decided by extra-time and penalties if necessary.

  • Wolves Reserves were due to entertain Fulham at the New Bucks Head this evening in the Barclays Premier Reserve League, but that match has now been switched to Molineux.
