Man guilty of pawnbroker murder

george-blackA second man was today found guilty of the murder of Shropshire pawnbroker George Black.

Gareth Powell, 29, of The Grove, Shobdon, Leominster, was found guilty of murdering Mr Black by a jury at Worcester Crown Court.

Mr Black was dowsed in petrol and kerosene before being set alight at his home at The Square in Bucknell, near Craven Arms, on December 8 last year.

The jury today also found Mr Black’s girlfriend Sylvia Marie Smith, 22, of Cherry Brook Close, Hope-under Dinmore, Leominster, guilty of conspiracy to murder.

Robert Field, 22, of Etnam Street, Leominster, was found guilty on Friday of murdering Mr Black.

Sentence was adjourned until tomorrow.
