A farmer in his 50s was airlifted to hospital today after being thrown across the ground by a bullock in Shropshire.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a farm in a village near Bridgnorth shortly after 8am.
An ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Claire Thomas said: “The 52-year-old man had been in the pen with the bullock when it reportedly threw him across the floor.
“Despite suffering severe neck, leg and chest pain, the man was able to clamber out of the pen where help was summoned.”
Crews put a neck collar on the man and put him on a spinal board before he was airlifted to Princess Royal Hospital for further treatment.
National Farmers’ Union spokesman Olly Cartwright said the accident happened on a farm near Bridgnorth.
He said: “At this very moment our thoughts are with the person who has been injured.
“We are obviously concerned and saddened to hear about this – when anybody gets injured on a farm its one accident too many as far as we are concerned.
“Farmers and their employees do work with livestock and are very aware of the potential dangers of working with such large animals.”
