Shropshire residents were taking part in a host of wacky fundraising ideas today as they did their best to help Children in Need organisers smash their previous records.

Special events were going on at schools, workplaces and pubs and clubs across the county as the money for Pudsey Bear and friends came rolling in, with line dancing, chest waxes and sleepovers among the events taking place.

It comes as it was revealed nearly £500,000 of the money raised through the BBC appeal has helped groups and organisations in Shropshire in the past four years.

Since 2005 grants totalling £410,401 have been awarded to a number of organisations in the county which support families and children.

Meanwhile, today in Telford worker Sharon Hubbuck was saying goodbye to her locks to raise money for the cause with a sponsored head shave.

Sharon, 39, who works for Fujitsu in Whitechapel Way, was braving the barber at work and friends and colleagues were all chipping in with sponsorship money.
