Pell Wall Hall

A buyer has been found for an historic north Shropshire house designed by acclaimed architect Sir John Soane. An offer has been accepted for the grade II listed Pell Wall Hall, near Market Drayton.

The country house set in four acres at Pell Wall went on the market last month with a £750,000 price tag and an offer in the region of £550,000 was tabled by an unnamed prospective buyer earlier this month.

Agents Strutt and Parker issued a seven-day notice on the property and the offer has now been accepted.

Ben Winson, from Strutt and Parker, said the offer was in the region of £550,000, but he added that they could not disclose who had tabled the bid.

He said today: “We have found a buyer. An offer has been accepted following the seven day notice. We are hoping that it will go through smoothly.”

The property was constructed between 1822 and 1828 and was the last completed domestic house designed by acclaimed architect Sir John Soane.

Faced in Grinshill sandstone, the property was built for the wealthy iron merchant Purney Sillitoe. It became a boys’ boarding school and then in the mid-1960s returned to private ownership. Victorian and Edwardian additions were added and have been removed.

In 1986 the hall was gutted by fire after a huge blaze ripped through the building.
