McCarthy will wait on Doyle

Thursday 19th November 2009, 3:31PM GMT.

BLACKBURN V WOLVES 3 GD 12Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today admitted he will have to assess the effect Ireland’s World Cup heartbreak has had on Kevin Doyle before deciding whether to play him at Chelsea on Saturday.

Doyle was part of the Irish team beaten in Paris last night after Thierry Henry’s double handball set up the French equaliser.

McCarthy admitted he would have to consider the physical and mental effects on £6.5m record signing Doyle, who is not due to re-join his Wolves team-mates until tomorrow.

“We’ll have to see how Doyler is first,” he said.

“He’s had two huge games against France to get to the World Cup so we’ll have to see how he is.”

Doyle cut a disconsolate figure after the game.

He said: “The linesman had as good a view as anyone and him not seeing it is embarrassing.”

But he declined to blame Henry, saying: “It’s instinctive and if you can get away with it . . . I’m sure he was expecting a free kick to be given. I don’t blame him.”
