It might not officially kick off until tomorrow, but Shropshire fundraisers are already getting in the swing of things for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal.

Last year a record-breaking £20,991,216 was raised for the massive appeal and people across the county are now preparing to take part in a range of events and challenges to raise funds to boost this year’s coffers.

As ever, a string of fundraising events is due to take place nationwide with people sitting in baths of baked beans, fancy dress days and sponsored walks.

Among those organising events is Ivor Nightingale, 50, of Sundorne, Shrewsbury, who has never even set foot in a rowing boat but has issued a rowing challenge to raise cash for Children in Need.

He has promised to donate £1 to the fund for every person who can beat his time on a rowing machine at Welti Health & Fitness Centre in the town, as part of the BBC’s Children in Need Day.
