Two arrests over CS gas suspicions

police_car Police arrested two men on suspicion of illegally importing CS gas in early morning raids on two homes in Telford, it was revealed today.

The men, aged 43 and 37, were seized at addresses in King Street, Dawley, in a joint operation involving more than 20 Telford police officers and officials from the UK Border Agency and HM Revenue and Customs.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the two men, both arrested on suspicion of the CS gas offence and one of them also on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply, were subsequently bailed pending further inquiries.

The raids, carried out at 7am on Friday under the Firearms Act 1968, were part of an investigation called Operation Barracuda.

Mr Ammonds said police seized nine canisters of what was believed to be CS Spray, as well as a large haul of tablets, believed to be Diazepam.

Detective Inspector Pete Brophy said: “The unlawful possession of CS or pepper spray is something that we take extremely seriously as they are often used as weapons by those intent on causing violence or disorder.”
