Hankey set for Whitlock match

Wednesday 18th November 2009, 11:44AM GMT.

Ted 'The Count' Hankey The calculators will be at the ready for Shropshire darter Ted Hankey tonight.

The Telford thrower plays his final round-robin group E match in the Grand Slam of Darts at Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall against Australian Simon Whitlock.

Hankey, the No 2 seed, has won one and lost one of his two matches to date and lies third in the table – with only the top two to qualify for the last 16 of the £400,000 tournament. And a complicated evening lies ahead.

Hankey is level on points with second placed Scott Waites but trails his rival by two on legs difference.

A 5-1 victory over Whitlock would definitely be enough for Hankey to progress.

Otheriwse, Hankey must wait on the outcome of Waites’ clash with Wayne Mardle before learning what he must do against Whitlock to qualify.
