Shropshire and Mid Wales is braced for gale force winds as forecasters predict yet more stormy weather on the way this weekend.
Some stretches of the River Severn were still on flood watch this morning, which could result in flooding on low-lying land.
John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, warned of more heavy rain and high winds on the way across the county although people will see a temporary lull on Friday.
Mr Warner said: “In Shropshire winds have been gusting at about 40mph and there has been 2.5 inches of rain in the Severn catchment area.
“There is more heavy rain on the way. The forecast between now and Sunday says there is quite a risk of flooding on the Severn but I don’t think it is going to be disastrous yet.”
But, Mr Warner added, with more heavy rain on the way residents could see critical conditions around the region’s waterways in the next few days. He said: “It is exceptionally mild for this time of year. It could possibly reach 15C/59F in Shropshire tomorrow.”
A Shropshire Council spokesman said: “There is currently a flood watch in place for the River Severn in Shropshire and we are not aware of any problems at present.”
The Met Office put out warnings for rain and gusts of wind of up to 60mph for Wales. The outlook is similar for Saturday when the storm warnings extend down to south-west England.
