Officers have now launched an appeal to try and trace the relatives of David Kenneth Heywood, 70, who was discovered on Monday night after police and fire officers gained entry to his house in Harlescott.

The emergency services had been alerted by a concerned neighbour.

A post mortem is to be held but there are no suspicious circumstances.

Coroner’s officer Phil Tyler said today: “Although Mr Heywood was fairly well known in the local community, we have been unable to trace any relatives.

“We are anxious to hear from anyone who can assist us in helping track down any family members. Any information which might help can be forwarded to me at Shrewsbury police station on (01743) 237445.”

He said Mr Heywood appeared to have been a private person, although well-liked by those who knew him. It’s believed he was a divorced man.

Mr Heywood had worked as caretaker at the Harlescott Grange Centre in Kynaston Road until retiring last year.

It is thought he came to Shrewsbury some years ago from the Hull area.
