Bruce meets young Lewis Jones
Football legend Bruce Grobbelaar brought some cheer to Hope House Children’s Hospice near Oswestry.
Rhodesian-born Grobbelaar, one of Liverpool’s best goalkeepers, dropped into the hospice during a visit to Oswestry to attend a sportsman’s dinner.
Director of fundraising Simi Epstein said: “When Bruce found out that Hope House Children’s Hospice was only a few minutes away from the Wynnstay Hotel, where he was the speaker at a dinner, he took time out of his busy schedule to pop in for a coffee and a tour.

Bruce demonstrates the instruments
“Having lived near Wrexham when he first started playing for Liverpool he remembered Hope House well but had never had the opportunity to visit.
“Oswestry lad Lewis Jones’s brother Alfie came to the hospice and sadly died in January. Lewis and his family continue to receive bereavement counselling by the hospice.
“Lewis is a huge fan of Liverpool Football Club and so meeting Bruce was a real boost to him.
“After chatting with Lewis and staff, Bruce enjoyed playing with the musical instruments in the music therapy room and was instantly drawn to to the African bells which he demonstrated to everyone.”
Hope House Children’s Hospices need to raise more than £4 million each year to aid terminally ill children and their families across Mid and North Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire through their two hospices — Hope House in Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in Conwy.
