It’s over and out for cricketing stalwarts

Two Shropshire cricketing stalwarts have declared their ‘innings’ as officials over.
Stan Higgins and Roy Price have stepped down as chairman and treasurer of Birmingham League division two outfit St Georges.
Higgins will continue to serve on the committee of the Church Street club next season, extending his association with the club into an astonishing eighth decade.
Higgins made his first appearance as a player for the Dragons in 1943, and continued to be a regular in the side until 1981.
His involvement then spread to off-the-field activities as he spent 25 years as vice-chairman before replacing Eric Lomas as chairman in 2002.
Higgins, now 79, has decided to stand down and will be replaced in the hotseat by Paul Taylor, father of St Georges and Shropshire paceman Steve, with Malcolm Webster elected vice chairman at the club’s annual meeting.
