Drayton looking to bounce back despite injuries
Tuesday 17th November 2009, 10:24AM GMT.
New Market Drayton Town boss Matt Burton is calling for a response from his side when they travel to Witton Albion in the UniBond League President’s Cup tonight.
Burton’s first game in charge ended in a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Lincoln United on Saturday.
And his task gets no easier in this evening’s second round clash, with 10 squad members ruled out through injury or suspension.
The list of absentees includes experienced goalkeeper Andy Pryce, who has a chest problem, so Andrew Spooner will deputise between the posts.
Other injury victims include Tom Rogers, Stuart Ellis, Tom Ward and Stuart Timmis.
And Burton has moved quickly to improve his options, snapping up midfielder Jason Wood, a second year scholar at Shrewsbury Town.
“Jason’s a young lad from Shrewsbury and we’re just going to take a look at him,” said the Drayton chief.
“He’ll be involved tonight and then we’ll just take it from there.
“The main thing is that I’m looking for a reaction from Saturday,” he added.
“The President’s Cup may not be our top priority, but it’s still an important game and we’re building towards Saturday’s league game (at home to Carlton).
“I certainly want to go to Witton tonight and play as strong a team as I can. These lads are new to me and they need to start performing to show me what they can do.”
