Two get bail after drug raid at homes
Monday 16th November 2009, 11:47AM GMT.
Two men have been bailed and a woman given a formal caution after being arrested in major police anti-drugs raids in Shropshire.
All three were arrested on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs following the swoops last Friday night and and one of the men was also later questioned about burglary and theft offences.
Police today pledged more hard-hitting action in the war on drugs and said more arrests were likely to follow.
Inspector Steve Fitzpatrick, of West Mercia Police, said the two men arrested on Friday were subsequently bailed pending further inquiries and the woman was cautioned.
More than 30 officers took part in the raids, codenamed Operation Artic, and search warrants were executed at three homes in Bridgnorth and Broseley.
Mr Fitzpatrick said: “It was a very successful evening. We seized a quantity of what we believe to be Class A and Class B drugs together with various paraphernalia associated with the use of controlled drugs.
“A quantity of what we believe to be cannabis plants was also recovered from one of the addresses.”
He added: “More arrests are likely to follow. Operation Artic doesn’t stop here.”
Officers also visited pubs in Bridgnorth during Friday, accompanied by dog handlers and Shropshire’s licensing officer Tony Mantle. And the Road Policing Unit carried out high visibility patrols in the town.
