MFI in Shrewsbury
Bosses at a Shrewsbury retail park are in discussions with a number of retailers to take over the site of a former furniture store. MFI was one of the first major victims of the recession when it went bust last year.
The firm went into administration in December 2008 with the loss of about 1,480 jobs.
Its store in Sundorne Retail Park, Arlington Way, has now been empty for almost 12 months.
But agents, who are leasing the site on behalf of the retail park’s owners, said that talks had been held with a number of interested parties who were keen on taking on the building as well as a unit, which used to be occupied by Allied Carpets.
Dominic Rodbourne, from Savills Estate Agents, said today: “The old MFI and the old Allied Carpets buildings are available for lease.
“There are several retailers who we have got ongoing discussions with.”
Mr Rodbourne said negotiations were still at a very early stage but said the discussions involved large non-food retailers.
Anybody interested in leasing the site can contact Mr Rodbourne on 020 7409 9945.
