Wolves boosted as Ward eyes return
Saturday 14th November 2009, 11:04AM GMT.
Stephen Ward intends to return to full training next week determined to add to Wolves’ left-back dilemma after revealing: “I’ve turned the corner”, writes TIM NASH.
The Irish utility man is seven days ahead of boss Mick McCarthy’s prediction earlier this week of rejoining his team-mates after recovering from cartilage surgery.
And the 24-year-old is hoping to join Richard Stearman and George Elokobi in a three-way fight for the No 3 role, if not for the Chelsea game then soon afterwards for what would be his 100th Wolves game.
“Hopefully I’ll be ready to join in full training at some point next week,” said Ward. I’ve still got a bit more fitness work before joining in with the rest of the lads but I’m there or thereabouts.
“It’s good to be feeling fit again – it feels like I’ve turned the corner.”
Ward started the season as McCarthy’s first-choice left-back, playing the first three games before succumbing to the injury after the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City on August 22.
Now he can see a return to the Premier League on the horizon. “I’ve had some experience, I know what to expect, and am looking forward to hopefully giving the gaffer another option,” he said.
