Simpson focused on Bucks clash
Saturday 14th November 2009, 11:02AM GMT.
Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson has vowed to treat the Shropshire Senior Cup with respect – and win back the faith of the Town fans.
Town travel to AFC Telford United on Tuesday evening for the cup final as they bid to regain the trophy they lost to the Bucks back in July.
And, irrespective of the outcome of this afternoon’s League Two clash with Torquay United, Simpson has vowed to field a strong line-up.
He believes the Shrewsbury fan deserve to see their side go for it, especially after losing to Staines in the FA Cup last week.
“There will be no experimenting,” he confirmed. “We will put out a strong side mainly made up of first team players.
“I won’t take any chances because the most important game after today is Bury at home next Saturday, but we still want to win the Senior Cup.
“I know it’s important to our supporters and we’ve lost their faith because of last week, so we’ve got to get them back on board.”
Meanwhile, Simpson said he had yet to receive any inquiries about strike pair Nathan Elder or Kris Bright, who have been made available to go out on loan with a view to a permanent transfer when the window re-opens in January.
And he insisted they could yet get a chance to force their way back into his thinking if they let their performances do the talking.
“We only have 18 or 19 players available so the chances are that they will be with us, on the bench or in the starting line-up and I will use them when I see fit,” he said.
“When they get the opportunity it is up to them to show the reasons why I brought them to the football club in the first place.”
The Town boss has also made a number of his younger squad members available to gout on loan, and he has had some interest from non-League clubs.
“There have been a couple of phone calls about the youngsters,” he confirmed.
“There’s nothing definite yet, but things can change very quickly and one or two might go out to get some experience.”
