More weather woe on way

stormsShropshire escaped the worst of the storms which battered large parts of Britain today — but forecasters have warned the worst is yet to come.

Gale force winds and heavy rain brought flooding and damage across the country overnight, while parts of Mid Wales were hit by floods.

The Upper Severn in Powys, near Welshpool, is on flood watch. Now residents have been warned to expect winds higher than 50mph today.

Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner, said: “Shropshire managed to escape the worst of it last night with the highest recorded gust being 53mph in Telford, but things are going to get worse.”
