Injury-hit trio face late tests to get Motoring

Friday 13th November 2009, 10:57AM GMT.

Injury doubts Carl Rodgers, Chris Nurse and Andy Brown will all receive last minute fitness tests ahead of AFC Telford United’s clash with Vauxhall Motors tomorrow.

The top trio are all nursing niggles, though boss Rob Smith hopes at least two of the three may be fit as the Bucks go in search of a third consecutive Blue Square North victory.

Rodgers is struggling with a foot injury, while Nurse has been out for almost three weeks with a pulled hamstring and Brown has a tight groin.

“We’ll take a look at all three of them right at the death tomorrow and make a decision then,” said Smith.

“Carl Rodgers really needs a break, but with Gavin Hurren suspended we need him. If he does play then I certainly think he’ll be out against Shrewsbury (in the Shropshire Senior Cup final) on Tuesday.

“Andy’s been struggling but I’m quite hopeful that he will be okay.

“Chris has been at Lilleshall all week and that’s done him good. He’s very close, but we’ll just have to see.”

Smith is eager to ensure the Bucks maintain their recent progress and don’t suffer a lapse following their brave exit from the FA Cup last Saturday, when they went down 3-1 at home to Lincoln.

They go into the game sitting 10th in the league table, and the Bucks boss is eager to see them make up ground on the sides above.

He sees this weekend as a big opportunity to do that, with some of the front-runners playing each other – Droylsden host Stalybridge while Hinckley entertain Alfreton.

“We’re very much playing catch-up, and the top sides are playing one another tomorrow so it’s a chance for us to make up a bit of ground,” said Smith.

l Tomorrow is the second annual Armed Forces day at the New Bucks Head. Serving and retired members of the armed forces can apply for free tickets to the game by contacting the club on 01952-640064 or emailing office@telfordutd.co.uk
