Carson too quick for O’Sullevan!

Friday 13th November 2009, 11:50AM GMT.

Racing legends Peter O’Sullevan and Willie Carson crossed swords at Ludlow – and it was the former Flat jockey who saw Moghaayer make a successful start to what has already been a fascinating career.

It looked as if Exulto, running in the O’Sullevan colours made famous by Attivo and Be Friendly, would make a winning debut in the opening 2m maiden hurdle.

But he was run out of it by Moghaayer and the fast-finishing Henry Daly runner Disco Jack yesterday afternoon.

Carson, making his first visit to Shropshire’s only racecourse, is one of The Ten From Seven racing partnership that now owns the winning son of Sinndar – and that after the original owner had disappeared!

Trainer Nicky Henderson’s assistant Tom Symonds explained: “He was bought on instruction for 52,000 guineas but then the person who wanted him disappeared.

“We could not run him for a year until we sorted out the ownership problems and eventually 10 people, including Willie Carson, got together to form a partnership to buy the horse.

“It has been frustrating because he was really pleasing us on the gallops but we could not run him.”

And just for good measure, BBC TV pundit Carson was back in the winner’s enclosure at the end of the meeting when Wallace Monument landed the bumper.

That completed a 13-1 treble for Henderson and Barry Geraghty.
