Report on relief road

Wednesday 11th November 2009, 10:32AM GMT.

A full business case justifying the benefits of Shrewsbury’s long-awaited North West Relief Road will be submitted to the Department for Transport next August.

If everything goes to plan, construction of the road will begin in 2014, with it opening to traffic in 2016.

The current cost of the project is £102.1 million of which the Government is expected to contribute more than £88.8 million. Shropshire Council will have to put £15,234,000 towards the scheme, according to a report to its cabinet next week. Public consultation is planned for next April.
