A father-of-two from Shrewsbury has proved he is on the ball by winning the manager of the month award in the Shropshire Star’s fantasy football competition.

Alex Sherratt, 40, of Grange Road, notched 68 points during October, putting him four clear of his nearest rivals.

Alex has the bragging rights among his colleagues at Aedas in St Mary’s Street, Shrewsbury, where he works as an architectural technician, after he became the first member of his work mini-league to win an award.

Alex, who supports Liverpool and Shrewsbury, put his success down to scoring 26 points over the last weekend.

He said: “I was getting a bit of stick for being down the bottom of the league when everything turned around due to some great performances by my star players.” He won 120 cans of beer courtesy of competition prize sponsor Banks’s and collected his prize at the Peacock pub, in Wenlock Road, Shrewsbury.

His team Lexo’s 11 included: Ben Foster (Man Utd), Patrice Evra (Man Utd), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Sebastien Bassong (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Gareth Barry (Man City), Danny Murphy (Fulham), Matthew Taylor (Bolton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Hugo Rodallega (Wigan), and Robin Van Persie (Arsenal).
