Gray set for return to county

Wednesday 11th November 2009, 10:20AM GMT.

Off-spinner Andy Gray has been offered the chance to return as Shropshire’s cricket professional for a fourth season.

The former Derbyshire and Yorkshire allrounder is seen as an integral to the bowling options of a side which will be led by new captain Ed Foster next season.

Gray’s performances have been impeccable on the pitch where he has taken 89 wickets in his 17 Minor Counties Championship matches – including 30 last season.

Foster has revealed that the vast majority of the squad will be made up by home-grown talent.

“There are a lot of good players in the county and we want to flood the team with Shropshire players,” he added.

“We will have Andy and there is a possibility of one more professional to bat at the top of the order – either one, two or three – where we may be a bit short.

“But that would have to be the right person in the dressing room and on the field.”
