Firm brings boost to jobs

Wednesday 11th November 2009, 10:43AM GMT.

Up to 20 jobs are being created by an Oswestry business as it looks to expand despite the recession by moving into the town’s Cambrian Station Building.

Big Green Book (BGB), an environmental business network, will open for business next week in its new suite of offices in the former railway station building on Oswald Road.

Managing director, Gary Braybrooke, said the move comes as they have outgrown their current premises and they are looking to recruit 15 to 20 people over the next 12 months.

He said initial job adverts have attracted so many applicants he has had to bring forward the closing date for applications.

He said: “We link businesses together to work with each other. The whole idea is for companies to improve their environmental and financial position working together, especially in the downturn.”

He added: “We moved in to offices above Northern Goldsmiths in February. We had to take another office in May because we had outgrown the first office. Now we are having to take three suites to develop further purely because we have outgrown these two offices.”

Mr Braybrooke said the business, which also has offices in Scotland and Bedfordshire, currently has 10 members of staff in Oswestry, including himself.

“I have set up for 34 people in the Cambrian Building but realistically there are going to be 20 to 25 people,” he said.

The new jobs will be created from January but BGB will be opening in the Cambrian Station Building from Monday on a three-year lease.

The listed building has seen businesses come and go following a £2.1 million restoration in 2006, but Buffers Restaurant opened just over three months ago, two offices are being let and now BGB are taking up three suites.

Roger Date, from the Cambrian Station Trust, said it was good news for the station and Oswestry.

“Big Green Book is an up and coming company with an environmental ethos that fits well with the station building.

“The building is at the hub of what is an exciting time for this part of Oswestry,” he added.
