Our past few columns have been rather male-dominated lately, so thank goodness we spotted the enterprising Telford duo @MoanAboutMen, aka Sue Hedges and Angie Savchenko, on Twitter.

Sue and Angie set up the now-famous website, www.moanaboutmen.com, which was officially launched in 2007 after they took part in the Shropshire Star’s ‘Star Idea’ awards.

Since then, the pair have appeared in several glossy magazines, had slots on GMTV and the Trisha Show, and have even inspired a book called ‘Moan About Men’ by Juliana Foster.

It all began when Sue was on the phone to a friend whose husband had forgotten their wedding anniversary.

“She was having a right old moan about it and the name ‘moan about men’ sprung into mind.

“It occurred to me that perhaps some women haven’t got a group of friends they can moan to, and I decided a website would be a good idea, so I bought the domain name and started the site with Angie.”

Sue says the most common ‘moans’ on the website are everyday things like leaving dishes on worktops instead of putting them in the dishwasher, leaving shoes lying around, hogging the remote control and generally not helping around the house.

“It’s never been about ‘man-bashing’ though,” explains Sue. “It’s just a space for women to share their thoughts.

“Our husbands have been really supportive about it – they think that any man who doesn’t recognise himself in some of the moans on the site is telling fibs!”

Despite a setback earlier this year when a netbot caused their website to fail, the girls are back up and running and the site has gone from strength to strength.

“We’re looking forward to 2010 as we’re working with a new group of people who are helping us to promote and monetise the website, and we’re hoping to re-launch it in the New Year,” says Sue.

To keep it fresh in people’s minds, the pair set up a Twitter page and wasted no time in making a name for themselves amongst celebrity twitterers.

“I put a tweet up asking whether people thought women nag or persistently ask, and Vernon Kay replied!

“Since then, we’ve been tweeting with Duncan Bannatyne, Keith Chegwin, Chris Evans, Liz McLarnon, Michelle Heaton and Kerry Katona, and Tony Blackburn has offered to come round and do my housework!”

Twitter has brought countless opportunities for the girls, including raising their website traffic and earning them coverage in the national press.

“We’ve had discussions with Red Magazine and we’re about to feature in an article in the Daily Telegraph – all because of Twitter,” says Sue.

Sue has also set up a charity Twitter account called @dontbuycards to help raise money for the Severn Hospice.

“We ask people to donate the price of a pack of Christmas cards to my Just Giving appeal.

“The donations started with £50 from the chick lit author Jill Mansell which was quite exciting, and I hope to have made a few hundred pounds for the Hospice by Christmas.”
