Hankey’s target is big prize

Shropshire world darts champion Ted Hankey is hoping to become the undisputed king of the sport in Wolverhampton next week.
Telford-based Hankey will make his first ever appearance in the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts, with the week-long tournament getting underway at the Civic Hall next Saturday.
The tournament unites the sport’s two different bodies, the Professional Darts Corporation and British Darts Organisation.
Hankey has refused to enter any tournament involving PDC players, but has agreed to play in the co-sanctioned event after winning his second world title at Frimley Green last January.
The 41-year-old has been seeded second for the tournament and last night’s round-robin group qualifying draw pitted him with Wayne Mardle, Scott Waites and Australia’s Simon Whitlock.
The top two players from each group progress, with No 1 seed and reigning PDC world champion Phil Taylor up against Mark Webster and Vincent van der Voort, as well as facing a battle-of-the-sexes with former women’s world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova.
