West Mercia Police Chief Constable Paul West bestowed Chief Constable Commendations on Detective Inspector Pete Brophy, Sergeant Dafydd Jones and Detective Constable Stephen Williams.
Police officers in Telford received special commendations at an awards ceremony for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Thirteen officers working in the area were commended at the awards held at the Madeley Court Hotel in Telford, along with one retired policeman and two coroner’s officers. West Mercia Police Chief Constable Paul West presented Chief Constable Commendations to three officers.
They were awarded to Detective Inspector Pete Brophy, Sergeant Dafydd Jones and Detective Constable Stephen Williams.
They led Operation Kiwi that eventually bought former Army chef Neil Garmson, of Wellington, to justice.
Garmson, 37, was jailed for a minimum of nine years for offences of rape, sexual assault, robbery and abduction.
Constable Garry Moody received a Divisional Commendations for his investigation of a crash on the A442 that claimed the lives of motorcyclist Timothy Harrold and passenger Claire Mason, both from Dudley.
Gordon Walker, a retired police officer, also received a Divisional Commendation for his commitment and dedication to the Telford Volunteer Police Cadets for more than a decade.
While coroner’s officers Alison Enmarch and Julie Hartridge received special mention for saving the life – by intervening and administering CPR — of a 93-year-old man who collapsed at the Hadley Park Hotel.
Also receiving Divisional Commendations were Constables Brenda Bellamy, Michael Watts, Adrian Jones, Heather Bateman, Ross Ashmore, Richard Bramwell, Stephen Roberts and Lewis Carpenter; and Detective Constable Joanne Heyes.

I see that these wonderful awards have been handed out to police officers for solving crimes. Can someone explain to me why ? Does the postman, shop assistant receive awards for doing what they are paided to do ?
Come just get on with your job.
Or is the fact that a crime has been solved justification for an award maybe.
