Chance to hear flax mill latest
Wednesday 4th November 2009, 9:13AM GMT.
Shrewsbury residents will be able to find out more about the massive multi-million pound proposals to redevelop the town’s historic flax mill at a meeting to be held later this month.
Shropshire Council’s development services scrutiny committee’s meeting will be held at Martin Wilson School, in New Park Road, at 7pm on November 26.
Councillor Alan Mosley, chairman of the committee, said it would focus on a number of issues — including the Ditherington Flax Mill.
Earlier this year it was announced that a design team had been unveiled for the project.
English Heritage, which owns the flax mill, started the search for a company to deliver the project last year. Bosses behind the £30 million scheme hope work will start by 2011.
The design team is led by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and includes structural engineers Adams Kara Taylor and landscape architects Grant Associates.
English Heritage has previously said it and the steering group behind the scheme would now work together with the design team to find a “viable and sustainable solution” for the site.
Today Councillor Mosley urged people to come along to this month’s meeting.
He said: “We’re hoping that the people who are preparing the designs and planning application for the flax mill will be there to present the work so far and to consult with people about these design proposals.
“It will be a great chance for people to come along and hear and see about the proposals at the flax mill.”
Other issues which will be discussed will include a look at how the Shrewsbury Growth Point has been operating.
