Bucks call for more clinical approach

Larry ChambersAssistant boss Larry Chambers has slammed AFC Telford United’s lacklustre finishing – despite a 1-0 win at Solihull Moors last night.

Liam Blakeman’s stunning half volley with 13 minutes remaining earned the Bucks three priceless points as they continue to close the gap on the Blue Square North top six.

But Chambers was not impressed with the overall performance, and demanded his strikers show a more clinical attitude in front of goal.

“I think it needed something like Blakeman’s goal to win the game because from normal play I don’t think we looked like scoring,” he said.

“I thought we were wasteful in front of goal. “Everyone then gets edgy and tense and the game becomes more difficult.

“We don’t look like finishing the chances at the moment, which is worrying to be honest.

“I’m just hoping that Danny Carey Bertram or someone else might get one and go on a bit of a run, but we are lacking a bit of

confidence in front of goal.”

Though a generally uninspiring team performance, there were a handful of impressive individual

displays to get the Bucks fans excited.

Striker Steve Thompson showed good energy and skill while left back Sean Newton was solid and tireless.

Chambers added: “Defensively, although we kept a clean sheet, we didn’t look as solid or as comfortable as we have done in recent weeks.

“But the bottom line is you come away from home on a Tuesday night and it’s all about getting the three points.

“Earlier in the season we were performing like that and coming away with nothing, so from that point of view things are improving.”

Lincoln City manager Chris Sutton was among the spectators at Damson Park as he prepares his League Two side for Saturday’s FA Cup first round clash at the New Bucks Head.

  • Former Telford forward Mark Danks, now with Northwich, has been named Blue Square North player of the month for October.
