They’re supposed to make the best bread in the world, but the French are seeking tips from a south Shropshire baker in their search for the perfect loaf.

Laura Bolt, owner of Bred by Fred, which is based at Clee Hill, has received repeated phone calls from potential customers in France who want to know more about her sourdough loaves.

Word of her culinary expertise has spread to the continent following an article in The Shropshire Star a month ago about www.bredbyfred.com

She said: “As soon as the article appeared, I received a number of calls from people in France who wanted to order my sourdough loaves. I was very flattered that the French would ask me for tips about baking, after all, their brilliance at baking is known around the world.

“Normally, my bread is only available through Ludlow Farmers’ Market and through my online catering firm. I was very surprised – and not a little flattered – to be asked to cook bread for the French.”

Miss Bolt added that she was investigating the logistics of exporting bread, although she may have to decline the French orders.

She said: “It would be very tricky to get the bread out to France, so I’m afraid I might not be able to pursue the inquiries. However, it’s a real boost that there should have been requests in the first instance.”

Miss Bolt launched Bred by Fred earlier this year and the company has already proved a hit, with orders flooding in.

She added: “It’s great that Bred by Fred is doing so well and I hope things continue on an upward curve.”
