Trafford Metros 5 Telford Titans 1
Tuesday 3rd November 2009, 12:06PM GMT.
It was Manchester misery for the Titans in their latest ENL North One fixture.
Up against Trafford for the first time since piping them to the league title last season – by one point – Titans knew it was going to be tough.
And with Simon Harrison, Daniel Brittle and Karol Jets still injured, and captain Mike Roden suspended after last week’s game against Blackburn, the Shropshire side were well short of their full squad.
The return of Kevin Parton and Jim Corfield helped and the first period was physical with some good ice hockey played.
There were several late hits but no penalties called and Telford did well not to retaliate.
The visitors had chances but could not score, a trend that continued in the second period.
Comeback
Up against it going into the third period, Titans pushed for goals to try and make a comeback, netminder Ben Hunt standing up to the home team’s threat.
Another late check, this time on one of Telford’s younger players, Luke Brittle, led to. retaliation from Ashley Stanton.
Before the incident Telford had only four minute in penalties, but Stanton received 2+2+10 and Trafford’s back up goalie was thrown out of the game for throwing punches from behind the bench.
Titans coach Dave Fielder said he was pleased with the discipline, until the late check on Brittle, and urged his team to start to play for 60 minutes not 45.
Kevin Parton got Titans’ consolation goal and the Man of the Match award was presented to Sean Weeks
Titans are at home on Sunday to Blackburn Hawks (5.30pm).
