Meeting over troubled ice hockey club

Tuesday 3rd November 2009, 12:12PM GMT.

Telford TigersFans of Telford Tigers ice hockey team will be able to discuss the future of the troubled team online when the club web forum reopens tomorrow.

It comes as fans were expected to flock to Telford Ice Rink tonight for a crunch meeting which could help decide the club’s future.

The outfit pulled out of ice hockey’s English Premier League at the end of last season after attempts to secure new backing failed.

The team’s web forum has been inactive since former owners David and Rachel Candlin stepped down earlier this year.

But the couple have agreed to allow online conversation to resume at www.telfordtigers.co.uk with volunteers acting as moderators, allowing fans to discuss the creation of a supporters’ trust to take over ownership of the club.

The open meeting takes place at Telford Ice Rink from 7.30pm, with anyone interested in ice hockey invited to find out how a supporters’ trust could run the club.

Representatives from other sporting trusts and from Supporters Direct, the organisation that provides advice and guidance to more than 150 supporters’ trusts, will answer any questions.

From tomorrow, the club website will also carry information on fans’ trusts and an overview of the questions asked at the meeting, for those who were unable to attend.
