A Shropshire soldier who was the first British casualty of the Afghanistan conflict has spoken of his joy and hope of inspiration for others after climbing Africa’s highest mountain.

Stuart Trow, from north Shropshire, lost part of his leg after being shot three times while serving in the war-torn country.

It happened just four weeks after he was deployed in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11, 2001.

But after completing his rehabilitation, the former SAS and Parachute Regiment member decided to embark on the challenge of a lifetime and climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania last week in aid of charity.
