Woman overcomes shock to deliver child

A Telford grandmother had the shock of her life when she called round to her daughter’s house and found herself delivering her next grandchild.
Grandmother of three, Cheryl Jauncey, from Muxton, went to daughter Gemma Smith’s house to take her to hospital, but when she arrived she found herself acting as a midwife.
The 42-year-old and her daughter, who is 24, were on the floor of Mrs Smith’s Donnington home when baby Roxy decided to enter the world.
Mrs Jauncey said: “When I arrived at the house I went to give Gemma a hug and I realised she was beginning to push.
“I could not believe it, I got the shock of my life so I called 999 and the lady said to put Gemma on the floor and she told me what to do.
“I wasn’t panicking – I didn’t have time to panic. We even had the dogs sitting in the kitchen but we just had to get on with it.
“I knew I was going to be at the birth, but I didn’t think it was going to be like this.”
Gemma said it was a team effort.
She said: “I had my mum helping me to deliver the baby and then my dad and husband were also there helping.”
