Rota to help with hospital services
Saturday 31st October 2009, 10:40AM GMT.
The leaders of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin councils have given a cautious welcome to recommendations to provide a countywide rota to cover vascular and emergency general surgery at the county’s two main hospitals.
Councillors Andrew Eade and Keith Barrow said the rota for both the Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury hospitals will be supported by an extra vascular surgeon.
The move received the support of the councils’ Overview Health Scrutiny Committee yesterday.
Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust will consider a recommendation on vascular services at its meeting on Monday to move services immediately.
Councillor Eade, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “We are pleased that the hospitals trust has recognised the need to keep vascular and emergency general surgery at both the Princess Royal and Royal Shrewsbury Hospitals in the interim.”

Just to point out to Shropshire hospitals users; who probably do not realise; that the R S H serves some 50,000 patients in Mid-Wales who do not seem to be included in any discussions on the future services via Powys PHC Trust or other bodies

Just to point out to Shropshire hospital users: That Powys workload at RSH is 12% of total activity (Powys health board figures) or around 6-8% of total trust activity, unlike the other 92% of the activity which is Shropshire based and do not seem to be regarded as equally important by some.
