Notts County 1 Shrewsbury 1

Saturday 31st October 2009, 10:52PM GMT.

SHREWSnewLogoTMShrewsbury Town came within five minutes of pulling off a sensational victory away at League Two big spenders Notts County.

Town took a deserved first half lead when on-loan winger Jamie Devitt latched onto Dean Holden’s pass and beat keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The hosts, who had newly-appointed Swede Hans Backe in charge for the first time, came into it more in the second half.

Town keeper Steve Phillips saved from former Shrewsbury striker Luke Rodgers, while Lee Hughes and Ade Akinbiyi also had opportunities for the Magpies.

But Notts County finally found a way through when Graeme Lee, a former loan defender with Shrewsbury, headed in a cross from Rodgers with five minutes to go.
