Bucks in appeal for past heroes
Saturday 31st October 2009, 11:50AM GMT.
AFC Telford United will be turning back the clock in an attempt to create an FA Cup upset next week – with the aid of the Shropshire public.
Bucks officials are keen to re-unite the squad which famously reached the fifth round of the competition in 1984-5 for next week’s first round clash with League Two outfit Lincoln City
Telford played in front of 47,000 in the last 16 against Everton 25 years ago, going down 3-0, having defeated Lincoln in the first round proper that year.
Now club chiefs are keen to invite the entire squad and manager Stan Storton to next Saturday’s game, but are struggling to track down some of the heroes of a quarter of a century ago.
Inducted
And they have issued an appeal for anybody with contact details for John Alcock, Colin Williams, Mark Hancock and Tony Turner to contact the club on 01952 604742 or e-mail office@telfordutd.co.uk
Meanwhile, George Jagger has been unveiled as the fourth and final legend to be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year.
The left winger made more than 400 appearances for the old Telford United in seven seasons, scoring 63 goals.
His roll of honour includes two FA Trophy finals, three Shropshire Senior Cup final successes, victory in the Southern League Cup in 1971 and three times winner of the Midland Floodlit League.
Jagger joins Les Wilson, EddieÊHogan and Neil Howarth as the 2009 AFC Telford United legends
They will be honoured in an event at Telford on Wednesday, November 18, with tickets priced at £16.
