Service to remember war dead

Friday 30th October 2009, 8:30AM GMT.

PoppyA Remembrance Sunday service is to be held at a Shrewsbury church next weekend.

It will take place at St Chad’s Church on November 8 at 9.45am.

A civic procession will leave the castle at 9.15am following the route of Castle Gates, Castle Street, Pride Hill, Mardol Head and St John’s Hill to the church.

The mayor, Councillor Alan Townsend, and other civic dignitaries will be involved along with units of HM Forces and service organisations to music from the Band of the Air Training Corps.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in The Quarry at 11am. And then buglers from E Coy 4 Mercian will sound Last Post, which will be followed by a two minutes silence.

Wreaths from all three services and ex-servicemen’s associations will be laid at the memorial.
