Parents’ fears over bus plan

money Parents who face losing their children’s school transport are being urged to pack a public meeting on Tuesday.

Up to 500 youngsters who live in the Chirk area and go to Dinas Bran Secondary School, Llangollen, could have their free school bus taken from them.

Parents could face having to fork out about £15 a week for each child or move them to another school within their own county boundary.

The unitary authority’s board has recommended that children attending schools outside its boundary, including Dinas Bran, must pay for their own transport.

Campaigners against the move by Wrexham County Borough Council want parents, families and the community to attend a meeting at Chirk Parish Hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

Chirk Councillor Terry Evans said this was the biggest issue to face the town in years and said he wanted to see the parish hall packed on Tuesday.

The leader of the unitary authority is expected to attend the meeting, as is the head of Dinas Bran.
