Decision due on courthouse
Friday 30th October 2009, 12:46PM GMT.

The future of a historic magistrates court building in Shropshire could finally be decided almost a year since plans to knock it down and build a housing development were first put forward.
Controversial moves to demolish the 166-year-old building in Shifnal to make way for four homes have been deferred twice by councillors on Shropshire’s area regulatory planning committee.
Now the matter is set to be discussed again on Tuesday and a new report to councillors states that two historical societies could be ready to step in to help decide the future of the dilapidated building.
Both the Shropshire Building Preservation Trust and the Embroiderers’ Guild have expressed an interest in getting involved.
The building preservation trust is concerned that the court building, although not listed, is in a conservation area and part of an interesting and diverse group of properties in Shewsbury Road .
