Town’s Hibbert dilemma

Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson is wrestling with the dilemma of whether to unleash leading scorer Dave Hibbert on the big spenders of League Two on Saturday.
Hibbert is back in contention for Saturday’s trip to Notts County after returning to training earlier this week following an Achilles tendon problem.
The eight-goal hitman has missed the League games against Darlington and Aldershot and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Accrington Stanley.
And Simpson must now decide whether to bring Hibbert back quickly for the attractive-looking trip to Notts County or give him an extra seven days recovery time and target next week’s FA Cup tie with Staines for a return.
“Dave is okay,” said the Town boss. “He trained on Tuesday and will do so again today.
“The only decision we have to make is whether to rush him back for this week or make sure he is completely right for next week when Waide Fairhurst can’t play (because Doncaster don’t want him cup-tied).
“I’m just delighted to have him back because at one stage, we thought he might be out for seven or eight weeks.”
Hibbert, himself, is thrilled he has only been sidelined for a brief period.
“I felt the injury going into the Vale game and I was just trying to get through as much as I could,” said Hibbert.
“Looking back, I probably shouldn’t have played in that game but I was desperate to and thankfully the injury hasn’t been too serious because we caught it early.
“Hopefully I can be involved on Saturday because it’s a great game for us.”
Town will be roared on by a big following at Meadow Lane. The match is all-ticket to away supporters with around 700 of the 1,200 allocation already sold.
Town fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets from the Prostar Stadium in advance, although any remaining tickets may be on sale at Meadow Lane on Saturday.
- Former Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters has been installed as joint second favourite for the vacant Aldershot manager’s job. Peters is 5-1 with Victor Chandler to succeed Gary Waddock, the same price as ex-Wycombe and England under-21 manager Peter Taylor. Graham Westley, the current Stevenage Borough manager, is the favourite at 9-2.
