Drummond doubt over Tour card

Thursday 29th October 2009, 12:55PM GMT.

GolfShropshire golfer Scott Drummond today made a solid start to the Singapore Open – but it may not be enough to keep his European Tour card.

A one-over-par 72, which ended frustratingly with a bogey on his final hole, looked likely to see the Shrewsbury-born professional in the top 60 at the end of the first round in what is a strong field including Phil Mickleson, Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington.

But Drummond is likely to need a top 20 finish to retain realistic hopes of securing his Tour card. With two events remaining, he is lying 135th on the order of merit – and must climb into the top 115 by the end of the season.

England’s Ian Poulter was the early leader in Singapore after a five-under-par round of 66.
