Askey’s in as Drayton re-build

Thursday 29th October 2009, 12:39PM GMT.

Market Drayton Town FCMarket Drayton Town have swooped for former Wolves youngster James Askey.

The 20-year-old centre half – who spent five seasons with Wolves as a schoolboy – has agreed to join the UniBond League division one south outfit.

Askey will not be available until next week but follows Marc Stallard, David Howells and Gareth Gates into Greenfields this week as the club attempts to rebuild the squad following the departure of manager Simon Line to Hednesford and several key players.

Drayton face their third game in five days tonight when they entertain County Premier League outfit St Martins (7.45pm) in the second round of the Shropshire Challenge Cup.

  • There was speculation today that first team coach Mick Murphy could be on the brink of leaving the club. Neither Murphy or Town officials were available for comment.
