Bucks hope for FA Cup lift-off
Wednesday 28th October 2009, 1:25PM GMT.
Larry Chambers is urging AFC Telford United to carry over their FA Cup “swagger” and use it to give them a boost in the league.
Telford thrashed Blyth Spartans 4-0 at the New Bucks Head last night, Liam Blakeman and Phil Trainer scoring before Andy Brown added a late brace.
That earned the club another £12,500 in prizemoney and set up a home tie with League Two Lincoln City in the first round proper a week on Saturday.
But Chambers insists this Saturday’s visit of Workington in the Blue Square North is more vital – and has called for his side to maintain the standards they set last night.
Flare-up
“Our league form hasn’t been great so we’ll prepare for that one and worry about Lincoln when it comes,” he said.
“The lads played with some confidence last night, they showed a bit of swagger, and we need to carry that into the league performances now.
“If an FA Cup performance against Blyth can inspire an improvement in the league then so be it, and I hope that’s the case.”
Chambers was sent off last night, along with Spartans assistant Adam Sadler, following a touchline flare-up.
At one stage 20 players were bunched together in front of the Telford dugout, but Chambers still insisted it was a minor incident.
“Their assistant manager decided to come over and confront us all,” he said. “He pushed me and I got involved, and I shouldn’t have done.”
