Vaughan ban worries Bucks
Tuesday 27th October 2009, 4:00PM GMT.
AFC Telford will have to cope without two key men tonight as they look to set up a mouth-watering FA Cup clash with Lincoln City.
Right-back Lee Vaughan is suspended for the fourth qualifying round replay at home to Blyth Spartans.
And midfielder Carl Rodgers has only the slimmest of chances of playing due to damaged ligaments in his foot which have not had time to heal since the weekend.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers admits the pair will be missed, but insists he and boss Rob Smith will still look to take the game to their visitors.
They are boosted by confirmation that Gavin Hurren is eligible, despite being sent off in Saturday’s 0-0 draw.
“Lee Vaughan’s ban gives us a selection problem and we may need to juggle things around with the players,” he said.
“Jon Adams is one candidate who could play there, or we could change the way we play, but that’s something for me and Rob to discuss. We will miss Lee but it’s an opportunity for someone else and we can’t worry about it.
“We’ve got an opportunity I didn’t think we’d have with 30 minutes to go on Saturday and we have to go for it.”
Chairman Lee Carter has called for the fans to raise the roof tonight and give the team a lift as they look to set up a home first round tie with League Two Lincoln a week on Saturday.
Chambers has echoed that call, though he said it was up to the team he and Smith put out to give the supporters reason to get excited.
“In the three-and-a-half years we’ve been here we’ve had some fantastic occasions and the fans have been brilliant,” said Chambers.
“We want them behind us tonight, but it’s up to us to give them something to cheer about and get them on their feet. I’m sure they’ll get behind us again.”
