Motorist killed as car hits barriers
Tuesday 27th October 2009, 12:36PM GMT.

A man in his 30s has died after his car crashed into barriers on a bypass in Shropshire – the second fatal crash in the county in as many days.
The death of the car driver on the A53 Hodnet bypass at about 8.45pm yesterday comes as tributes were made to an Oswestry teenager who died in another crash at the weekend.
The driver of the Golf, believed to be in his 30s and from north Shropshire, was found a short distance from the crash on the A53. No other vehicle is thought to have been involved.
Meanwhile, Grant McCulloch, 18, of Balmoral Close was a passenger in a blue Peugeot 306 car, which is believed to have mounted a grass verge and struck a tree on the B5069 Gobowen road on Saturday about 9.30pm.
The driver, a man in his 20s named locally as Scott Muir, was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Walton Hospital, Liverpool where he remains critical but stable today. Several floral tributes have been laid at the scene of the crash.
Today Grant’s father, Ian, said: “He was a good son, full of fun and with some really great friends. He was in his final year as an apprenticeship as a car mechanic and was proud of what he did and where he worked at Moreton Garage, Gledrid.”
His mother, Jane, said the whole family was devastated. Grant had an older sister, Sophie and a brother, Bradley.
Lance Collings, owner of Moreton Garage Services, said: “Grant was a lovely natured young man. He only started work with us in March and was well respected by all his friends and colleagues at Moreton Garage.”
Mr McCulloch was a keen music fan, particularly of Oswestry band The Kayas.
The Kayas frontman Ad Edwards said today: “We can’t believe what has happened.
“He was a top lad and came to quite a few of our gigs with his mates.”
The band’s drummer Tom Jarvis said: “He was a lovely lad and will be sadly missed.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Oswestry police on 0300 333 3000.
