Man hurt in smash between tractors
Tuesday 27th October 2009, 11:43AM GMT.
A man in his 50s was injured when two tractors crashed near Telford flipping one of the vehicles onto its side.
The smash on the B4394 in Walcot resulted in the road being closed for an hour-and-a-half while attempts were made to remove the tractor which was blocking the highway.
Police had to use heavy lifting equipment to move the tractor and its large trailer, and were able to reopen the road just before noon yesterday.
An ambulance was sent to the scene shortly before 10am before taking the injured man to hospital.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found two tractors that had been in collision. One of the tractors was on its side.
“The driver of the tractor that was found on its side, a man believed to be in his 50s, was treated on scene for shoulder and facial injuries.
“The man was conveyed to Princess Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment. The driver of the second tractor, a man, was assessed at the scene but had suffered no injuries.”
Chris Ammonds, a spokesman for Telford police, said the road had to be closed while special equipment was brought in to clear the tractor and trailer.
“This was a minor injury road traffic collision involving two tractors, who both had heavy-duty trailers on them, so we needed heavy lifting gear to get them off the scene,” he added.

It really is time to ban these vehicles from minor roads.

Excellent idea, in fact if they were banned from the countryside altogether it would prevent the farmers being tempted to use the roads.
I suppose they could use horses or oxen instead (as long as they wear nappies to avoid road soiling – that goes for the horses and oxen as well….).

So the police now have their own heavy lifting equipment do they?

Do all theese people commenting above grow all their food in their back gardens ? Because if it wasn’t for farmers driving their tractors on the roads there wouldn’t be enough food for people to eat !
