Waide delighted with Town debut

Waide FairhurstLoanee Waide Fairhurst is eyeing a month-long goal spree to help propel Shrewsbury Town into the heart of the League Two promotion race.

Fairhurst kicked off his one-month spell at the Prostar Stadium in impressive style with a goal and two assists in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Aldershot.

The 20-year-old remains keen to force his way back into the plans of parent club Doncaster in the long-term.

But for now he has his mind set on making his spell in Shropshire as successful as possible.

“I was delighted to get the first goal and hopefully there are a few more to come over the next few games,” said Fairhurst.

“But the most important thing was to get the win and to get us up and around the top placings.

“We started sloppily but got a bit of luck with the sending off (of David Winfield) and did well for the rest of the game.

“I look forward to going back to Doncaster down the line but, at the moment, I’m just focusing and keeping my head down and trying to score goals for Shrewsbury Town.”

Fairhurst admitted he was a little surprised to be allowed out on loan by Doncaster, for whom he appeared as a substitute only nine days ago and has scored on both his Championship starts this season.

But he is delighted to be given the chance to impress at Shrewsbury.

“My manager at Doncaster (Sean O’Driscoll) rang me on Wednesday afternoon and said that Shrewsbury wanted to take me on loan,” added Fairhurst.

“I had got in the team at Doncaster earlier in the season and thought I had done well and taken my chance, but that’s the way it goes.

“I wanted to come to Shrewsbury and from what I saw Saturday, it’s a really good club.

“Everybody has made me and Jamie (Devitt, fellow loanee) feel welcome and I just want to play games and enjoy my football.”

Meanwhile, Town can look forward to their first ever FA Cup clash at the Prostar Stadium.

Yesterday’s first round draw pitted Paul Simpson’s side with Staines Town, who are currently 13th in Blue Square South.
