More than a dozen arrests have been made and thousands of pounds’ worth of drugs and stolen property seized following a police operation in Shropshire.

The week of police action against those suspected of being involved in burglary and the supply of illegal drugs has been declared a huge success.

Over the course of several days last week, more than a dozen warrants were carried out at addresses in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Whitchurch and Oswestry.

Operation Protect is an ongoing and long-running campaign by officers in Shropshire Division to both raise crime prevention awareness and take criminals off the streets.

At least 14 people were arrested for suspected burglary or drug-related offences.

Two of those arrested on suspected drug offences, a man and a woman, were arrested at an address in Shrewsbury on Wednesday on suspicion of conspiracy to import drugs from overseas. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Another of those arrested in Shrewsbury was charged with house burglary on Wednesday and has been remanded in custody pending appearance at court.

Members of the Road Policing Team North carried out two days of enforcement on Tuesday and Wednesday to target suspected night-time criminality.

On Wednesday alone more than 60 vehicles were stop checked across the north of the force, in conjunction with Cheshire Police and North Wales Police.

Three Romanian nationals were also each sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for 13 sneak-in and distraction burglaries in the Broseley and Albrighton areas.

Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade, who led the week-long operation, said he was “delighted” with the success of the operation.
